“How Does Changing Seasons Impact Human Mental Health?”
As the air changes, so do we. The older I get, the more I realize how deeply each season messes with my mood. Summer’s sunshine feels like motivation in the air, and winter’s gray skies? Sometimes they hit like a wall. But that’s the truth about human mental health, it ebbs and flows right alongside the seasons, and pretending it doesn’t only makes the harder months tougher.
Science backs it up. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a form of depression that cycles with light exposure, affects millions of people every year. When daylight hours drop, serotonin and dopamine levels can fall, and your body’s natural clock gets out of sync. You start craving carbs, sleeping more, and feeling drained. The fix isn’t magic; it’s awareness. Sunshine, exercise, good company, and even small things like putting on your favorite Mental Health Apparel before heading outside can make a difference.
That’s part of why I built Dad Bod Summer, a Men’s Mental Health Brand focused on connection and daily reminders that you’re not alone. We started this company on a fishing trip, me and my buddy Ray were on the water, talking about how men rarely open up about their mental health. We realized something simple: if a T-shirt or hoodie can start a conversation, maybe it can also save someone’s day. Every order from Dad Bod Summer donates 5 % to charities that support Men’s Mental Health Awareness, and every design in our Mental Health Apparel line is there to say, “Hey, it’s okay to feel it.”
Fall is actually one of my favorite times of year for that reason. The crisp air, the hoodies, the switch from cold beers on the deck to coffee on the porch, it’s a reset. But it’s also when a lot of guys start slipping mentally without realizing it. That’s why our Mental Health Hoodies and Mental Health Sweatshirts are such a hit. They’re not just warm layers; they’re wearable reminders to check in with yourself and the people around you.
And when spring finally rolls back around, it’s like the world exhales. Longer days, more sunlight, more reasons to get outside. We release new Mental Health Shirts each season to match that energy. Our bright colors, fresh designs, and unisex fits, all have a purpose stitched into every seam. Because just like the weather, mental health isn’t static. It’s something you nurture and adapt to.
If the changing seasons have been rough on you lately, know this: you’re not broken. You’re human. Get some fresh air, call a friend, take that drive with the windows down, and throw on something that makes you feel part of something bigger.
